ok so I am very very new at this world of growing. I was in my backyard one day and found a sprout in the sand. Figured it would be a waist to kill it so i moved it. After a while it got too big so I moved it into a pot and brought it inside. Some of my friends told be it wouldn't grow any taller and produce buds once it entered flowering stage. They told me to put the plant on 11- hours of light per day (currently at 10 hours). In my gallery I have pictures of the plant and the soil it is in. My friends also said when it entered flowering stage I needed a different soil. I water it with water from the sink and also did this when it was outside due to dryness. This is a very simple setup with two simple lights bought from the local store. I have a few questions.

-Can you tell if this is a female it looks like it to me and is starting to smell (and has been inside on less than 12 hours of light for 1.5-2 weeks)

-What is with the bottom leaves getting brown (pics in my gallery)

-Is this soil ok

-Should i change soil soon and what else can i do to improve my plant.

as I said i found this thing and never thought it would even make it but here it is and looking nice if I might say so. Anything that can help me is appreciated.

p.s. the brown spots are really scarring me they are getting worse.

Ok...

1. It looks female.
2. No idea sorry
3. No that soil is definitely not ok. Look for an organic soil with no included fertilizers.
4. Yes, and get bigger pots!
5. What kind of light is that? - You need at the very minimum 6 CFL's (The fluro energy saver tubes) to keep this plant going. If not, whack it back outside.
6. 12/12 (<-- remember that) 12 hours lights on, 12 hours of PURE darkness. No more, no less, forget your friends advice.

if I put it back outside after it has entered the flowering stage will it remain in that stage and bud. I mean if I put it outside and it is getting 13 hours of sun will it be shocked and die or change phases again. I have a trip coming up in the next week or so and it will have to be moved outside or to a friends house. As for the lights the long tube one was a very cheap "grow light" as it said on the box and the other one is a "grow bulb" in a socket.

You say bigger pot and different soil but how big and what soil is best for it is changing phases?

I am still learning about this and really don't know what you mean by the light that you were saying so should i move it back outside now? I have not noticed anything negative to the plant since it came inside. (the brown spots just got a little bigger) and all the small leaves are new since coming inside.

If moved outside what can i expect. Faster growth? How bad is it gonna smell are the neighbors gonna smell it in there yard?

Hungryman, if you put it back outside, it will change back to veggie growth. Doing this might stress your plant.

As for soil type, try to get a type of soil that does not have time released nuts in it. Something organic, that has like worm castings or bat shit in it, or something.

Pots size.. Hmm that is different with each person. I would go 3-5 gallon pot myself. Add 30-40% perlite, or vermiculite to the soil for good drainage.

Good lucky on the mystery plant.

so I am still a little confused about what kind of soil but non-time release I can remember. Then do I need to feed it with some sort of plant food or will it be fine just in the soil? Are there any alternatives to the expensive lighting I don't really have a lot of money to put into this project and I have alway heard weed is a weed and WILL grow if given a good chance? and what happens if it has started to flower and it goes outside do I risk loosing it? I'm sorry to sound needy I just want to learn just don't have tons of money to put into it.

A good buddy of mine grows with like the exact setup you have, he has one CFL and his harvests are very small but it will grow.. You just won't have a huge yield out of it like you could have with the proper lighting..

You're doing the right thing, It's not worth spending a ton of money on high dollar equipment..

It's is called weed for a reason, just like you said, it will grow regardless.. don't stress it, I'm sure one of the respectable growers here will come on this forum and help you out :P

As far as soil goes, Just get something, organic or just plain potting mix that has no fertilizers in it, the problem with MG soil is the time release ferts like mentioned above, the walmart here carries Hyponex Potting soil.

It's just pretty much a plain soil that is mixed with a lot of different things to make a good growing medium and if I'm not mistaken Miracle Grow has an organic mix that doesn't have time release ferts in it.. May wanna check it out :P

I really hope so I want a slightly good harvest. I mean it will be all mine and what I "share" but it isn't like it is getting split. As long as the yield is worth what work/money I put in to it then I will do it again and maybe (most likely) bigger next time.

You hit it on the head right there. Money/Work. The more you put in, the more you get out. If you want to grow cheap, then grow cheap. But do not expect 2-3 OZ's per plant. Go buy like (3) 43 watt CFLs. (soft white). then once you change to flowering, buy (2) the daylight CFL's. You will get some bud from this. Some people use nothing but cfl's, and a few get great results.

The 42 watt cfl from wal-mart is perfect.

The daylight cfl is a different light spectrum. It works a little better in the flowering stage then the soft white ones.

are you talking about the big $50 lights cause that is a lot of money for me right now. is it possible to use the cheaper ones that you see in the stores.

like this

Walmart.com - Always Low Prices! - GE CFL Light Bulb: 42 Watt (150W Equiv) 2-Pk

or is that totally not what i am looking for?

oh and what about this "daylight" you talk of the only one I saw was I think under 100w.
this is the one i got..
at walmart for like under 10 bucks

EFI's Online Store for Lights of America | LOA 24" Light Sticks

im with you man.. best i can do.. for the least amount of money...
what about using some soil from outside mixed with pearlite...
if it grew in the dirt in your yard so far... that dirt cant be that bad

ok so I am back in town and I got better soil now. I didn't get new lights yet as cash is tight. I have many problems as you can see for the most part the plant and buds look nice but the bottom leaves KEEP DYING. It just keeps moving up the plant and I am scared. When I went to change the soil the plant was completely root bound. Is this ok? I was afraid to tear the roots so wasn't able to get too much of the soil off. Should i do this again and force the dirt off risking the damage to the roots? Any help is much appreciated.

first of all i think you have a nitrogen deficiency that would explain the leaves, second of all, i dont know who told you not to put her outside, but there wrong, its the best thing you could do right now. she wont start vegging again. if you do this make sure to ease her into it, and keep her protected. good luck

Can I damage the roots to get the old soil off and transplant her? Or will that kill her? But at her size now I really have no place for her outside but knowing that she won't go back to vegging is nice. Will the nitrogen kill the plant? and if i can't risk damage to the roots how can i fix this? Please help

hey man.. relax..... please... no need to get all flustered and crap. I am a newbie too but looking at some pics from other people the bottom leaves dying seems natural. its also happening to a few of my plants. If i were you, i would just put it outside the way it is. in the bucket and not transplant it. but i am a newb to growing... and yes its called weed for a reason. it will grow :) heres some pics

ok so I wake up and THREE MORE LEAVES ARE DEAD (https://www.rollitup.org/marijuana-pics/index.php?n=8095). I am really worried because two of them were right under bud producing branches. I have a few more photos to add. Hope you enjoy and can help. I need to know about the roots and what to do to fix this problem. I also moved one light to focus more on the side of the plant than the top.

Couple of bud pics how do they look.
