Okay. well this might be posted somewhere else, if so ignore this post and direct me elsewhere cuz I can't find it. But if not, read on..

So like the title says, I tried making hash oil out of about 10 grams of shake/stems, I used zippo lighter fuel as a solvent ( might be the problem right there ) mixed it in a mason jar and strained with a coffee filter.. I got a liquid with black stuff on the bottom, assuming its the THC cuz apparently it sinks? iunno..

Anyways, I waited a while and eventually the fuel evaporated, but I was left with a powdery/hashy like substance.. nothing like oil.. where did I go wrong? I shouldn't have to heat it? I'll be trying again with ISO but a friend said this would work.. thanks for the help in advance.

I do believe rubbing alcohol works pretty well. What I have always used to make my oils and stuff.

There is some nasty shit in lighter fluid. If you are going to use ISO, use the highest percent stuff you can find. I have seen 91% at walmart, but the 99% shit you get at paint or hardware stores is way better. If you use ISO you can smoke the stuff you make, but dont try to cook with it or put it in tea because it still has poisonous crap in it. When I make oil, I use Everclear grain alcohol. You can get it at liquor stores. It is expensive, but worth it for the purity.

The only question I can see that wasnt answered was the one about heating. No, you dont have to heat it. The grey hashy powder is residue left over after evaperating the rest of the lighter fluid. The ingredients and additives are most likely printed on the can. Read what was in the fluid and you will have your answer to that question. What else do you need to know?

You could also try butane (campingaz, turn the can upside down so it comes out as a liquid), methanol (you can buy this for biodiesel, but it'll turn you blind, so make sure you exaporate off every last drop of it and do it in a well ventilated area), IPA (isopropanol, used for general household cleaning. similar to methanol but much less toxic) or acetone (this ill pull away some of the chlorophyll with it though, turning your hash green.

I've never tried any of these myself, and I'm not claiming that any of them work... but theyre worth a try.

Don't use the lighter fluid. It leaves a residue that tastes like crap and is bad for you. Use the butane or alcohol you want something that gasses off clean. I use butane to extract and finish with 97% alcohol to keep it in the oil form.

Everything you mentioned except for isopropal alcohol is highly toxic and is very easy to blow yourself up with. Any open flame (lighting a joint while you work) could blow the man up. I have been making oil for 30 years using ISO or grain alcohol and it has never failed me. I started out using coffee filters, but now i use something similar to bubble bags to filter out the crap. It comes out looking more like honey oil without the greenish black tint.

Im still a newb myself but have made bho from shake a couple times. From my understanding the solvent you use has nothing to do with the clarity of oil you make. It is the size of the screen that dictates if you get black or golden honey. The clearer honey is achieved from using buds and uncut leaves.. At least thats my understanding.

And the OP used a poisonous type of solvent as stated so that doesnt help. SO DO NOT SMOKE WHAT YOU EVAPORATED WITH LIGHTER FLUID. It most likely contains poisons.

Please correct me if im wrong tho cause i am a newb. And good luck to the OP on makin some hash/oil.
