I was just wondering what do you do with the soil after harvest? Do you reuse the soil, or is it garbage?

No discard it. It is no longer good.

throw it in an outdoor garden, if u have one... the nitrogen in the old roots will help any outdoor garden. Or spread it over your lawn.

I've been growing flowers and vegetables for years, and I toss my old "used" soil into the compost bin or dump it in the garden. If you're growing with fertilizers, then the soil typically still has some nutrients in it and there's really no reason to throw it away (it's dirt, for pete's sake, just dump it on the ground). You can definitely reuse it as long as the plants that grew in it didn't have any diseases or pest problems, but I wouldn't necessarily use it as-is (I'd mix it with some "new" soil and compost first), especially if you're planting the same type of plant.

Farmers and gardeners don't dig up their gardens every year, throw the soil away and replace it, do they? Nah, they rotate the crops so the soil isn't depleted or they add soil amendments to enrich the soil with nutrients.

I'd compost it if I still had my compost bins, but I don't so it goes to waste. You certainly don't want to reuse it for any indoor gardening though.

So would it be good idea to re-use with some new soil if you been using nutrients and fertilizer through out the grow?

What are your general pratice for soil users that use nutz and fertz with there grow?

Well, if i havnt used nutes [at all] i normally get rid of half and reuse some of it with the new stuff, done this a couple of times - no probs whatsoever but i wouldnt try it if theres a chance theres still nutes in it coz i wouldnt want to risk killing seedlings.

along the sides of my house in the back there looks like there used to be a flower bed there but the previous owner didnt do any lanscaping and now it is half dirt half grass. when I harvest at end of summer can I turn that area over and spread some of the used dirt there to elevate the area above the grass? Ill buy some new soil and plants then in the spring to complete the new bed. (Ill have even more used soil by then from my next 2 harvests hehe)
