Default Is This To Much Light For This Room ?
We are nearing completion of our room and are ready to buy a light. The room is 45" x 45" and 50 inches from the floor to where the light will be. The room is underneath stairs so there is additional room just no additional growing area.

I have seen several links to this; https://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduc...roductID=47981 and want to know everyone thoughts. It just sounds to good to be true, ballast, reflector, MH lamp, HPS lamp.

I have installed a 4" duct with an inline suncourt fan to get some of the upper air out of the room.

Is this to much lamp for my little area ?

Will I need a another 4" duct pumping air into the room ?

Should I have gone with a 6" duct and inline fan ?

Thanks,
SuM

Can you vent to the outside of the dwelling? Any fresh air in?

the light isn't too big..it's too small. I would go with a 600 and an aircoooled and would figure out a way to make the ventilation work.

you won't be sorry at harvest and the extra $$ upfront now will seem like nothing.

Currently the 4" inline fan is venting to garage, its the best I could do. I could get air from

A) The garage but the temps are never constant
B) The furance / AC room a little better, but I am unsure how warm this gets in the winter
C) Between the 1st and 2nd floor is about 12 inches with insulation. I could clear out some insulation and pull from here. The air is always cool.

Can you recomend a site ? I loved the combo on the other site but am willing to pay more if a dealer or mfg comes recomended.

If I understand correctly you want me to feed fresh air through the reflector and possibly pull air from it as well. What about the rest of the room if I do this ? These ducts eat away at my space

Thanks for the link above I will check out their site next. I am assuming you meant hydro.

Here are a few pictures and my plans which will hopefully spark some other suggestions for my build. Keep in mind my wife and I dreamt this up late Saturday night.

We have an 8 foot deep coat closet on the middle floor, I cut a 2ft x 2ft hole at the back for access under the stairs. After a few hours of vacuming and wiping down we were here.

ImageShack - Hosting :: room1rg0.jpg

ImageShack - Hosting :: room2nf0.jpg

We began by removing ONE support from the ceiling to give us an extra 7 inches, painting, and re-enforcing the entrance. We used eggshell white thinking it would be the easiest to keep clean and dust free.

ImageShack - Hosting :: room3jg3.jpg

more painting and removing of overhead nails.

ImageShack - Hosting :: room4xb0.jpg

Ran a 4" duct from the garage to the room to air out.

ImageShack - Hosting :: room5ck2.jpg

NO pictures from today but we finished painting and have added a 4" inline fan to what you see above and ran it to a high point in the room. Also added 4 outlets to the room.

Tomorrow I guess we will work on getting AIR into the room from where I am undecided at this point. Plus we have vinly flooring to lay down and seal with some cheap trim to catch water overflow.

The entrace to the area dumps right into the heart of where the plants will be. I am working on something that will have all the plants on pallet of sorts with wheels to slide out of the way to gain entrance.

Care to recomend something off this site for my situation ? I would love to have both HPS and MH lamps. I was hoping to spend under $400.00 for lamp, ballast, reflector

maybe this?

Lumatek 400 ELECTRONIC ballast. Burns both hps and mh. Silent running.

Hydrofarm Value Cool Tube - Lumatek ballast grow light system from 4 hydroponics.com by Growco Indoor Garden Supply

Cool Tube---would ROCK in yer space. Takes up less room that a boxey/square hood and jettisons heat from the space well. With a 4 to 6" adapter the fan you have might work.

I'd still go 600 if I could swing it...but the 400 will be fine and WILL stay cooler for ya. Some of yer space...way up under the lowest stairs in unusable
I wouldn't figure this into my calcs...and would probably mylar it off at some point so not to lose light in an area where there's no bud.

Check Ebay too. Lotsa deals there...

temperature will be your challenge.... at least that's my guess.

good luck

600w in that tiny space? You're insane.

It's not the square footage that's the problem - it's the height, he's only got just over 4 foot to play with! Even a 400w HPS will probably generate too much heat in that area. He needs to be looking at 250w HPS's and possibly CFL's or linear fluorescents.

One of the biggest advantages of 600w and to an extent 400w HPS's is their light depth penetration - he's only got 4 foot! So it's hardly an issue is it?

This guy needs to have a rethink about his lighting and ventilation.

Looks like a vote for 400 watts or lower. Today I returned all the 4" duct and fans. Going to 6" with 2 inline fans and a stat to watch the temp. The first fan will blow out to the garage while the other will pull air from a small space next to the furance room. I am headed up now to keep working, I may be able to post some pictures tonight.
