1k ScrOG vs SOG

Finally I've gotten the funds together for a place and a friend and I want to start a medical grow.

We have decided on 1000W HPS in what will most likely be a 3'x4'x7' closet grow. Legally we are allowed 12 plants.

My question was this: I have been debating between scrog and sog. I have been set on scrog, but the guy in the hydro shop said that a sog with 12 plants under the 1000W "is the ticket." I would lie to keep the plant number low, preferably 6-8, which is why scrog is more attractive. I would be willing to grow more, but I'm worried about upkeep and risk. We will probably be ordering the ebb and grow 12-site system. I would love to construct one myself, but maybe once I am confident enough with how one works first. It wouldn't be a true sog if we went that route, as we would have 1 plant per square foot, but each one could be a tree.

My question is this: what are the pros and cons of both methods, side by side. I am familiar with scrog, but I am wondering how it compares to this sog approach.

Has anyone flowered a 12-plant sog or 8-plant scrog under 1000W HPS? I'd like to read the journals to compare the two and get some inspiration!

I say go SOG with a 1000. Thats a big area to be fucking around with ScrOG. since your going ebb and flow it wont be such a pain to change your res with scrog. If you can rig up your scrog into 2 or 3 sections it would work well. That way you dont have to monkey around under the screen 2 feet in......using everything posible for leverage and cursing like a sailor, perhaps punting the dog afterwards.

seems like a lot of work, really, it does. But the yield seems soo much larger!

just think about how many times you want to harvest. a sog you're going to be trimming and drying and curing every week to 8 weeks, depending on how many you do.

well now am thinking of doing 8 plants straight, no screen, and grow them a couple feet before switching to 12/12. Not a sog, per se, but I've heard of yields of 3.5 pounds per 1k light like this with 6-12 plants per light. It seems the tradeoff is more bud/plant with larger pots and plants, but less plants use the light more efficiently and therefore can produce more bud. Both methds seem to take a while to vegetate, but I'd imagine a sativa is better for a scrog and an indica is better for a unrestrained method.

As far as harvest, once every 8 weeks is fine. If I pull in even 2 pounds I can cover costs by selling back to th clubs and still have a personal stash with more weed than I could ever smoke alone. The work involved in scrogging is not unreasonable to me, but if I coud produce as much or more bud this way, I'll jump on it!

im very serious. however scrog has to do with training and pruning plants to get the most out of them. most often used with less lighting or when not many plants. thanks gypsy bush.

now i know. i didnt bother to look it up because i didnt really give a fuck. its not my thread and i was just making small talk.
