Hello, I am a new grower wanting to grow some tall plants indoors. The plant I am looking to grow is a strain called Snow White off of nirvana-shop.com (http://nirvana-shop.com/index.php?di...oduct_id=29887)
The area I am growing in is about 3.5 by 3.5 feet wide, there is more space than this but it is about a 3.5 ft wide by 7ft long closet. It is about 8-9 ft. tall (Roughly 2ft less due to a slanted ceiling). I wash hoping to grow four plants, but want to let them grow as tall as possible... So how many gallon bucket should I have? Should I upgrade bucket size as the plant grows or just germinate then plant in large bucket (Always wondered about that). Also, Could I use say a 600W HPS bulb for this, but make adjustments to increase canopy penetration? Just some newbie questions hoping to get some tips. I have searched around but haven't got the answers I'm looking for. |

Why do you want such tall plants indoors? You do realize that your light will not even effectively light the bottom parts of your plants? Do you know how big they are going to be? IMO keep them short and bushy. Use your space effeciently; spread your plants canopy over the length x width of your growing area, not the height.
Generally, you want 1 gallon of pot space for every foot growth you want from your plant. You can put your germinated seeds directly into your big pot if you so desire.

Thanks for the response.
Well I was hoping to be able to let the plants grow taller to get a larger yield. Could you direct me to a reference on how to encourage the plants to grow wider instead of taller? |

Here's a link I think you might find interesting:
How To LST (Low Stress Training) You can also do a Sea of Green (SOG) or a Screen of Green (SCROG), both of which can also help you grow large yields. It all depends on what you want to do and your grow space, and they all have their pros/cons. Do a tag search here on RIU and you can find almost any information you need to do any of these grow techniques. Good luck

Another other tips on how to maximize yield? Though I guess if I'm going to LST I should ask in that thread, hm? ![]()

Just a suggestion.... Once you put your plants in giant pots, you won't be able to move them easily at all. I have mine in 5 inch jiffy's...when the bottoms are covered in roots, THEN I'll put them in the big pots. For now, I can move them around to water them or give them some natural sun really easily. Hope that helps YO
