Default I dont understand ventilation
Look , Ventilation may seem like a very simple thing to many of you, but to me it is completly blowing my mind. If *my friend* was growing in a tent with an air cooled HPS light and i wanted a charcoal filter to clean all of the exaust how would it be setup. I looked through the FAQ's and All that but i cant grasp the concept of ventilation. Can anyone supply me with a link with PICTURES that make this whole process seem fairly easy... What if someone would just mount an 4" inline fan to a 150W HPS lamp and blow ---> that way through it? Would that but sufficient for such a small lamp? Could another fan mounted inside the tent then suck the hot air from the tent and blow it through a charcoal filteR??? laksdjfkljasldkfj im so confused!

Second question. If *my friend* were growing in a tent with a 120W LED grow light and i wanted to filter the exaust through a charcoal filter outside of the tent what would be the best way to go about this. I cannot wrap my brain around the concept of how this is done.. I just about want to all over the place

Would i just mount the fan Inside the tent ( near the top) , suck the hot air out of the tent, blow it through ducting, and then through a charcoal filter?

What if * my friend* wanted to have a 120W LED and a 150W HID both inside a grow tent, How would the ventilation for this be setup?

Get a inline fan, prolly a 4 inch one would do for a grow tent,

you then want to mount the carbon filter in the tent far on one side

then attach a 4" flexible duct to the filter, then attach that to your light,

after your hps hood, you need a enclosure for your LED,, i'm not too sure how they vent those pieces of shit. i'd drop it for another HPS and run them inline.

so to recap. Filter-->HPS--->LED--->Inline fan--->out vent

Next to bring fresh air in. you need a fan attached to the in flap,,, this way the freshie air comes in to the plants, then gets sucked out through the filter and over your lights.

the filter attaches to ducting, the ducting attaches to a fan outside the tent, the fan is sucking air out of the duct (and therefore through the filter) and blowing it out.

the filter needs to be in the tent and it needs to have air being pulled in to it to be effective.

Your questions actually sound pretty informed, so you likely have a better grasp of the situation than you think. 1st thing to try is fan without filter, do a dry run with light and thermometer. If your temp is good after an hour or so, you're ready for hooking up your filter. Small steps much easier than large ones.

LED dont produce much heat and a 150HPS is pretty low heat. A 4 inch fan should work well. Look for something quiet. I dont think the LED light need cooling. The 150 should work with a thin glass cool tube. look up something called a hurricane glass from a hobby store. Pyrex bake around is going to be too thick imo. Typicly it seems the best way is carbon filter, light, and fan sucking the air out. It doesnt need to be in that order, but one important thing to keep in consideration is that heat rises. Keep your exaust high and pasive intakes low and unrestricted. And push the outgoing air as far away as possible.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but this is how I would do it. The LED probably has fans on it pushing hot air up, no need to ventilate it. I personnally would keep the tent exhaust separate from the light cooling so it can pull all the hot air from the top of the tent.

I have a 250 watt HID that I air cool with a bake around and 80 cfm PC fan, keeps it plenty cool. Just make sure you're sucking air through the light, not pushing it, to minimize pressure differentials.

Hope this helps!

YES!! thats it.. Thank you so much everyone and especially busch97 for the diagram. Tell me what you guys think of a 150 watt HPS and a 120W LED TRIBAND FULL SPECTRUM for veg and bloom on and EBB and Gro in a tent 3 or 4 by 4? I think that will dominate.. any opinions? Huge buds anyone?

I'm going with a similar set up of a 5x5x7'6" tent with a air cooled 600 watt hps, the ebb and gro system ( which i hear produces like a champ and is very beginner friendly ) and using a portable 12k btu a/c for cooling the air in the room that the tent is in which will eventually end up in the tent via the intake fans. I've been a little confused on my venting/exhaust issues as well. I'll be using a 6" 464cfm fan to exhaust the light and the room and was wondering if this would be adequate? This will be my first attempt and I want to go in as prepared as possible. thanks for any comments/replies.

Hi AERO, new to the site. Look at this link. http://forums.mycotopia.net/cannabis...-scrubber.html Build one of these and attach a fan to it. You can get the fan at Lowes or Home Depot. It is very simple and follow the instructions from the post above. I have been using this set up for a few years. It works like a champ. Just vent the scrubbed air outside the tent into the room, if smell is still there you may need bigger fan to suck the smell through the filter or you may need a bigger filter. Using this link as an example you can build any size you want. It is much cheaper than buying a pre-made filter and works just as good. Good Luck.
