W'sup people,

I'm looking for some criticism and advice on a possible grow set up. I've done some preliminary research and have pieced together a plan.

I'm looking to do this recreationally (just 2 plants) and not buying expensive lights (not too worried about yield) I'd just like to get a feel for it.

So without further ado:

I'm currently germinating a couple bag seeds.

I was thinking a 3'X2'X5' wood box, painted flat white with mylar lining.

2 computer fans (1 for intake one for exhaust) possibly a ventilation tube off of the exhaust fan going out the window.

2 daylight light cfl's (advice on wattage would be awesome) suspended from the top.

I want to grow in 5 gallon buckets using sunshine mix.

Nutrients: Tiger Bloom, Big Bloom

I may look into LST if the box is too short.

I was going to go with 18/6 then to 12/12 for lighting.


A couple questions:

-Is overheating an issue if I'm only using two cfl's?

-What kind of feeding and watering schedule would y'all recommend?

-What is a cheap and easy way to deal with smell?

-What kind of automated light timer would work for this set up?

-And advice when to switch from growing to flowering?

tehe you should consider more light in there, as long as there not too close and ambient temp (room temp) doesnt get much over 90/95

with only 2 cfls you probly wont need both fans on nearly all the time

if your really worried about smell go find the smallest ozone generator you can, either that or invest in some glade plugins or something (IMO ozone is overkill for 2 plants)

is your box 2x3 feet and 5 feet high? personally i dont need that much height cuz i like to keep veg phase short enough so that i give transplant nutes only once until flower

-What kind of feeding and watering schedule would y'all recommend? depends on what ur feeding with, use those directions, maybe dilute more than directions unless ur using all organtic. I water about 2 times a week and more as they get larger if needed.

-What kind of automated light timer would work for this set up? Small setup like that just get a utility timer from hardware store, plug a power strip into it.

-And advice when to switch from growing to flowering? with the lower light you are using keep em small, those lights cant penetrate lower branches, remember they will stretch alot once 12 / 12 is introduced. Good Luck

You wont have any over heating issues with that lighting. You should consider adding more lights if you want to get a decent result.

Here is a rough guide for CFL lighting:

Dont bother using any output smaller than 100w.

sprouts to 3 leafers--2 lights for up to 6 sprouts
3 leafers till 10-12 inches--1 light per plant
10-12 inches till they go 12/12-- 2 lights per plant
12/12 till harvest-- 3 lights per plant, additional side lighting will also be helpful.
