Talking just germinated newbie,
ok, I have just planted newly germinated seeds. do I need a light source over them. they are ww fems.
4 out of 10 germinated less than 24 hrs.
20 various others were also in seperate group. out of 20, 9 have germinated. I know by tommorrw more will need to be put in pots. I need to know what is the optimum grow situation to start them right, so they do not get 4 - 6" tall. right off the bat. and grow long skinny and fall over ...

They don't need strong light. Maybe indirect light through a window, or from a fluro or CFL something that doesn't get to hot and dry them out.

well if your using cfl Lights once those plants pop out of the dirt, keep the cfl's right on top of the plant. But to answer your question better we need more info, how is your grow room set up?

Don't use Miracle Grow soil. Can't stress that enough. Use Fox Farm Soil or Pro Mix. Mix some perlite with it to get better drainage.

For a newb use a few cfl bulbs; 6500k for veg, 2700k for flower. Get the highest wattage of each one you can find. Keep your cfls as close as you can to the plants.

As far as nutes, many people here have excellent results using common plant food. Many people here like to Shultz products.

Go 18/6 for veg, and 12/12 for flower.

Use the Search and Search Tags on RIU to help you as you go.

Good luck

Don't put your plants in the window, someone will see them. You don't want that to happen. Just use cfls. They are good for beginning growers to gain experience. Use the highest wattage cfls you can find for veg and flower, and make sure your electrical setup can handle the number of bulbs you use. You want 2-3 bulbs per plant, so you may want to consider fewer plants than what you have going now. On average, you'll get 50/50 male/female. DON'T use any nutes, not for a while yet.

Above all, be patient. You're not going to grow killer dank over a weekend.
