Default nl/bb for beginners?
Hey all,

I finally have found the opportunity to start growing my own plants (indoors) and it certainly appears that the internet was invented to provide that information. Well, this and porn.

I've been to many sites, but this one stands out hands down because of the interaction between users and the hands on solutions provided to growing problems people are experiencing.

I've decided to start off with a cross of northern lights and big bud, due to the potentially large yield and decent potency this cross strain (apparently) provides.

Does anybody know if this strain would be appropriate for a beginner grower?

Thanks all, and good growing.

ps. particular thanks to Widow Maker, whose many detailed posts have been most enlightening.

I 'd go with an INDICA for the short bushy growth. And the Potency!

I bet in soil it would be alot smaller. I used a DWC and they shot up something fierce. I'm in a 7X3 space and that one indica pheno takes up 2/3 of the room in there. Pretty easy to grow, and clone. Had a hermie, but the buds are getting huge.

Northern Lights x Big Bud is a hybrid of two Indicas.

I've never grown it so can't comment, but yield is as much to do with how long you Veg for and how much light you use and how much you feed and general growing skills as it's to do with Genetics.

Don't be seduced by the promise of high yields - you may not get them.

My recommendation for an easy to grow, low odour, low light strain would be Mandala's White Satin, also featured in Ed Rosenthals Book of Buds 3, and reasonably priced - 30 bucks for 10 seeds -

White Satin

This robust variety is a good choice for the novice gardener and experienced grower alike. She combines power, quality, and flexibility with a relatively short flowering time. White Satin is made for easy growing... you can plant and harvest with a minimum of effort. The main flowering power is located on the central stem, but also the side shoots deliver quality “nuggets”. White Satin has proven to be very versatile for Sea of Green or SCROG (Screen of Green) methods and performs well under low light conditions ( fluorescent, CFL, 250W NDL). Her medium height, good yield, and well-balanced intensive high have made her a popular variety for indoor. The aroma of the flowering plants is unobtrusive and low which makes this strain an interesting choice for stealth grows. Outdoor most plants will finish end of September in southern latitudes. In extreme northern climates expect to harvest mid October or later. White Satin can develop an extremely large and dense main cola, so it’s a good idea to keep humidity between 35-50%, and night time temperature not below 20°C, as a prevention to mold. Check the head buds at least once before harvest if they are very fat, or if you have constant high humidity in your grow space. The plants with the highest resin output will cover many leaves with trichomes and provide an extra treat for hash enthusiasts.
