Yes you need the ec ppm meter. I didnt know i had a crap load of minerals tds in my water and over fed my plants. you may be starting with 4-500 ppm before adding nutes and if you dont account for them you will over feed your plants or even lock out your nutes.

Noone even asked if you are growing in soil or hydro. If you're growing hydro, then yes, you should really get a TDS/PPM/EC meter. If growing in soil, i'm of the thought that you don't need one.

It is essentially the same thing.
EC=Electrical Conductivity PPM= Part per million, calculated either by ECx500, ECx640, ECx700 depending on the brand of meter you buy TDS=total dissolved solids, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Total_dissolved_solids You really only need to measure one of these, i prefer EC because it is a universal rate and doesnt fluctuate based on brand of meter. |
