Harvesting (just buds or leaves and stem)

I am harvesting my crop. I want to know if people bother with the bigger leaves and stem or just the buds. I have been cutting off the leaves because I think these will slow down the drying by not allowing airflow and may help prevent bud rot. (I have hung the whole plant upside down)

The leaves are laying on the floor at the moment but should I be using them?

The plant will dry much slower if you haven't trimmed off all the fan leaves/small leaves & brances etc. Just manicure the plant so that you are just left with buds on the stems & branches & it will dry quicker & more evenly... where are you drying? closet or..? what temp/humidity etc?

Welcome Alteaman
The smaller leaves closest to the buds can be used to make hash.
It is a 10:1 ratio though.
10g's leaf gives approx 1g hash.

The fan leaves should have little to no thc resin.

Thanks for the info. I think I will leave the hash. I have 7 plants and there will not be enough leaves to make it worth while.

BTW : Drying upside down in a basement room with de-humidifyer. approx 28c temp and 50-60 humidity. Fan blowing but can't get the temp down because it is 40c+ here at the moment (southern Spain)

You should aim for 45-55 humidity, dark, &
18-22c for drying 28c maybe too hot & drying maybe uneven & end up with brittle buds..

Hope this helps, just done all my drying & got my drying & curing info from Jorges Cervantes Medicinal Grow Bible...

How do you determine humidity in the room you dry in?

Is the best hash "rubbed" off the buds and have any of you ever made hash this way?

Thanks.

if you dry in a room/ wall closet it isn't bad to take the entire branch with the buds on it and hang them up. pick the fan leaves off as long they are still fresh, then it is still easy;)
the best would be to hang some stings up to hang the buds on.

the best hash is water hash, so the trichomes are washed and filtered off from the leave mass. that is why fan leaves shouldn't be trashed to early;)
the next in line would be extracted hash which then will have some chemical residues to it and the last would be beaten or shake hash, also called marroco hash. with this type you got quiet a bit plant material in the hash and it is harsher to smoke then the other first 2 types.

and to control humidity you use a meter for it, cheap go for under 10 bucks and do well;)
