how important is phing ? my water naturally is at about a 7 i know it should be lower but ever ph down i use rebounds back after 24 hours

i have just completed a succesfull grow but im guessing it could be better if i had my ph down
i have hard water where i live should i invest in a water softener so i dont get rebound ? or will i be ok with a ph of 7 ?

anyway i got one of those ph strips packs that came with my hydro set. well i used to always check the ph with them but damn its seems to always be the same no matter when i check it its in the 6.5 range so after a few monthsof this i tried dipping a stripin milk and it wasrelatively the same too!!! could my whole PH pack be messed up?? or do I just have the perfect setup no matter howmuch nutes I added ph doesnt change?

how can I test the strips for sure to see if they are defective.

i asked am i ok to do a soil grow with a ph of 7 ? i know it is not ideal but will it have a major affect on my yeild

i know that it is not the ideal ph for growing and understand how ph works just cant seem to keep my ph down is this a major problem ?
