18/6 works fine and it gives you a break on the electric bill

Use fluoros. Once they're 1 month old,switch to the 600 watt.

putting them under the 600 should be fine as long as you can back it off as much as possable, i keep my seedlings under my bigger plants untill they get a little bigger but backing your light off as much as possable should do the same type thing. if you cant back the light off enough you might have to find a screan to put over the top of them, so they have a little shade.

i prefer 18/6.
