Default Making a reflector for high bay warehouse light
I have some high bay warehouse style lights with vertical bulbs that I would like to convert to a horizontal bulb configuration with remote ballast. I will wire the existing top ballast to a place on the wall. I'm guessing this isn't a very good type of reflector as is, right?

They are capable of handling various voltages and 0-400W (MH, HPS, Hg) and 1000W (MH, HPS, Hg) bulbs.

I was thinking of making a reflector out of sheet metal and possibly painting it. What kind of paint would be good? Would round HVAC ducting pulled open work well for something like this?

You just want to reflect light man. No need to paint the sheet metal but if you were to paint it then I would say white enamel. Or cover it in Mylar or panda film.

Hell, I am using oven liners and they work better then that High Quality German aluminum stuff they make reflectors out of.

I'm doing batwings made out of HVAC rigid duct. Just open at the seam and bend backwards in the middle with a 2x4 in there to make it a nice sharp bend.
They will work better IMHO if painted with high temp automotive flat white spray paint. You want FLAT. It will spread the light more evenly and be more reflective than the metal itself even if you polish it to a mirror finish.
You'll find the paint at places like Napa for $5 a can or so.

Do you have a link to that light you bought? I want to check that out with the multi wattage info.

I don't know. I could try to find something. They are made by Cooper. I found them on Craigslist.

The voltages listed on it are: 120, 208, 240 and 277. A wire is moved to the appropriate voltage inside the ballast housing.

Here is the type of paint I bought for this.

(Rustoleum High Heat White)

I also bought some galvanized steel sheet metal.

That should do it...

Thanks for the link, I'll have to keep an eye out for a good deal on a few of those. They actually do appear to say on the label that it takes multiple bulb types and wattages. That's quite a feature on a "wharehouse light".

Man I'd love to find someone local to me with a truckload of those...

The guy I found on Craigslist took them from a warehouse that he worked at. He said the lights were being changed to flourecents. He said some guys were wanting for scrap metal, but he ended up taking what the others didn't get. he said he had something like 70-80 of them, I forget. I only had $200 on me at the time, and he said he would give me 10 for that, so that is what I got.

Craigslist is where to find the local deals. They are a bit big to ship.
