So, I am considering to start my first grow, but before I actually plant the seeds, I decided that it would be best to germinate them. Through research though, I have found that some people place their seeds in a water bottle, with a little water on the bottom, before using the wet paper towel idea. Would this be a better way to go than jumping to the paper towel? If so, what does it do exactly?

Doing that first will let you know whether or not your seeds are good. After a time, the good seeds will sink while the bad seeds will float. It also helps soften up the seed casing for germination. You can also put a couple drops of SuperThrive in that water too. I hear it helps with germination...never tried it though.

Alright, sounds good. Thanks for the advice. I think what I will try is to put half my seeds straight to the paper towel, while I split the other half into water bottles, one group with the SuperThrive and water, the other with just water. Any idea how much ST I should put into the water?

...noobs
if you new to growing or in general, you should try this method since it is fool-prove to almost 100%: For soil start with a jiffy tab and soak it in pH'ed water and let it sit then for an hour. now take some rooting/cloning hormone, about a knife-tip, and treat the center spot with that where the seed will go in a moment. if you done with that place the seed on it and push it in about 1/5" and cover it with some soil. keep this jiffy moist but not soaked from now on. Same thing is done with a grodan cube. seed will spruce normally with in less the 4 days, mine so far spruced all within 48h. that all reduces messing with seeds since more spruces are killed with the act of transfer then you probably guess.

Hmmm, thanks for the idea green, but since I am a noob, as correctly stated by you, I think I will try the simple way to germinate for my first grow, but I will certainly keep this idea handy, since it would cut the time in half.
Now I have another question though: I was reading through some forums, and somebody said that before the seeds sprouted, if you did not germinate, that if you were growing in a pot you could place a plastic bag over top, and use an elastic to keep it on. Would this also work to help keep in moisture? Or would I be better off germinating? |

Yea, I wasn't really looking into that way all to much, but just wanted to see if it could actually be worth my time, and also just for the general knowledge, which is pretty much why I am starting these plants, not for the actual buds.

this is the best most complete way to germinate seeds
first get a coffee mug and fill it with room temperature water about 1/3 off the way full. then get and eye droper and add 1-2 drops of superthrive. add your seeds. make sure you push all of them down to the water and for the ones that dont float after you push them out throw them out. there useless. cover the mug with seran wrap and leave in a warm dark place for exactly 24 hours. then take them and place them onto a paper towel presoaked in warm water. fold the towl up to about 2x4 inches and put it in a plastic ziploc baggie. let them sit for 2-4 days and check up on them every day. try not to do this too often as it disturbs the seeds. so limit the checkups to once a day. once the seeds have taproots of about 1/4 of an inch apply them to moist warm composte. make sure the pH level does not exceed 6.5 or does not go below 6. bury them root down in about 1/5of an inch of soil. put seran wrap over them and store them in a cool dark place until they sprout. when the sprout this is where you begin the 18-6 lighting process. once they are sprouted that is the end of the germination stage. therefore concluding this article |
