Default Wood Chips?

I was out earlyer in my backyard and there is a big pile of wood chips and I noticed lil plants sprouting out. Would tree grow in a flower pot of wood chips?

Woodchips dont work good and can cause your plants to become dwarfs... What happens is the roots cant go into the soil, they hit a piece of bark, and have to grow around it instead of through it like it would of without the presence of the bark.

This can lead to a dwarf plant. This happened to me using a bag of MG organic, it contains bark and one of my plants suffered due to this.
