Bro i cannot help you if you sway from the simple rules I set forth. Just a simple cup of tap water is all u need. I tried it all.Follow the directions carefully. Change the water once a day.(FRESH water)

so it doesnt matter if its room temp or not? will warm water work i just dont want to put my clone into shock using cold water

and also i heard that the cup has to be dark to keep light from hitting the roots is this true?

I did not mention lighting. All u need to do is place these things in shaded or indirect light(On the side of one of ur other vegging plants maybe 18 inches from the actual light source).The leaves of the moms will shade this light. Until they develope root structure growth. I veg my current plants with cfls. Metal halide will speed up this process.

I turn on my cold water and pour the desired amount of water directly into my cup.Works everytime now that ive found the proper process of steps it all works out good everytime. 100% ratio to be exact.dont make things any harder than they have to be.... FOLLOW the steps bro.

does it matter how thick a stem can be when cloning? is it the thicker the better?

Yes it all comes down to common sense kinda bro. The trick to it that ive found is. U want to take a cutting at least 4-5 inches long with prolly 4-5 nodes. The idea i guess is to make sure once ur cutting is cloned.Its stalk or base will be sufficient enuff to hold it up.These lil red disposable cups take care of all that for u during root structure growth. I dont have to stabilize clones in the pots the rock does that for me.

could you just use something to shade the light if your doing a stealth grow without extra space

can u only buy rockwool in a hydro store or online. is there some at home depot or lowes?

Sure but in this case like in mine I would suggest using a couple typical 42 watt daytime cfls for the best results. Shade I dont quite understand ur Question. The thing U should be most concerned with is that plants do not need high spectrum lighting to clone. Just plenty enuff time under them. (18/6).My veg space is only 31 inces tallX22X20inches square.
