I know you need alot of lumens to grow good buds. And i got one of these at work and they're brite as fuck; i just wanted to know what ya'll thought about it.

Halogen won't do. If you want cheap light get some of the highest wattage CFLs that you can find.

halogens will kill it from heat

im new to growing myself and am using some cheap lights i found around the house too. a 160 watt outdoor floodlight and a 60 watt outdoor light and i have a 1 and a half foot almost 2 foot tall plant. i expect to get maybe an eighth in the end. but fuck it ill invest into better lights later. its still working just fine. think about it yours is 500 watts you might get SOME sort of results. i suggest just going to htgsupply.com they have full kits starting from 69.95 for a 150 watt light, ballast, reflector and your choice of bulbs metal halide or high pressure sodium, then they have 400 watt light starting at like 117.00 you can spend a little more and it will come with timer and some other goodies which is worth it seeing and you must have a constant light stability/timer or its not worth even trying to work your schedule around turning on and off your plant lighting EVERY FUCKING day. so i say try it just keep the lights FAR away from your plant. like 18-20 inches. ideal heating for a plant is 75-80 degrees. although u might be able to go closer

yeah im pretty strap for cash thats why im lookin at somethin super cheap. I bought the ultimate grow dvd (jorge cervantes) and he said," You can get fantastic results with halogen lights, but you have to keep'em cool". (quote from the movie) i just wanted a second opinion on the light.

then use it just keep it real far away. like i said 20 inches. and keep a fan in the same room as the plant if possible to keep a good temp. have you got the plant in soil yet or do you plan to start from a seed?

yea keep them cool cause they get hot....

its ironic the same place im makeing figures at that theres the same land they used to hang niggas at..!!!

i got a plant in a soilless mix of 20% perlite, 30% coconut shavings and 50% peat moss. I don't have my tape on me but id say its about 3ft tall with the grow bag. i've been using a 60wt, 30wt and 100wt lights. they're all kinda here and there. i move'em around to make sure it gets plenty of light. The plant looks like it wants to start filling out but i don't have any good lights. ya know?
