germinating seeds directly in soil is not the best method.
you should germinate seeds in between moist paper towels in a warm dark location.
i use the top of my refridgerator.
the seeds usually crack within a day and the tap root will grow in within 3 to 4 days then place them just beneath the surface of the soil,
root facing down.
if you are determined to germinate the seeds in soil just keep the soil moist by watering when the soil starts drying but not all the way dry.
should be about 1 time every day or 2. just dont let it dry all the way

What he said.. germ in towels..that being said I don't water per say at that size. I use a spray mister and just keep soil damp..to much water can compact dirt making root growth hard, plus I like the roots to look for water at the size and expand.... Luck.

I just sprouted eleven out of eleven seeds from soil, being patient is the key. I use flouro's and I keep my lights about one inch from the plant, you want the plant to keep reaching out for the lights and enticing it to grow. If you're using CFL's be sure the light isn't too hot. Some of them heat right up! Good luck

i agree with twistyman and his sprayer method. this will force the seedling to reach for the water giving it a better root system. which in the long haul will give you a stronger plant and better yield.
and also very true about compacting your soil while watering. and that can cause your roots problems
+rep to you twistyman

For a day or two fine..I give just sun in warm weather for the 1st couple of days, then into the spa..let them get a grip.. In about 2 days move light to about 3/4"..Good to use a Y splitter and put plant right between 2 lights..stops stretching... You can always do the GROW YOU BASTARDS naked dance.. just don't let neighbors see that..you'll get popped...... :p

i personally don't like the paper towel method, dries too quickly and can you to damage the taproot when transplanting into grow medium. I prefer using rapid rooter plugs and a fogger, seed sprouts in three to five days ready for 1/4 nutes
