Default wiring a 5 socket strip to an extention cord
I bought a 5 light vanity bar, and a 16 guage replacement cord, 8ft. Its basically a 2 prong extention cord, 13 amps, and has a black and white wire at the end, matching the black and white wire of the vanity bar.

So to wire them, just connect white and white, black and black correct? and then screw on the wire caps? Is 13 amps enough for 6 26watt cfls [im using a few y sockets too]?

when wiring it should I put any electrical tape over it?

13 amps is enough, florecent gives you more watts for less amps and i would use electric tape just in case

Just to be safe do this.

Tape the wire nuts on so they can't come loose.

In the beggining ever so often go feel the extension cord with tour hand.

If the cord gets hot you have a fire hazard. A larger gage cord would fix this problem if there is a problem.

the amp rating should be indicated on the cfl ballast. It'll be rated in a milliamp. Add those up and you'll have your total amp rating. Also figure anything else attached to the circuit. You can use a bunch of cfls on one circuit before reaching the 15 amp limit for a typical breaker.

Also, listen to Moon Shadow on his above post. Check it every hour or so for the first day. House fires suck, and the investigation as to the cause of a house fire will suck even worse!

I have it all setup, and wired, thanks for the help. Right now I have 6 cfls in 3 of the 5 sockets. It was a tough fit because I had to make a stand out of a small box, theres also about an inch above the metal lights at the top where the cord is at, I did electrical tape the wire nuts as well, very well. Good thing I thought to buy the tape.

On the circut I have a 9" fan, unsure of the watts or amps, but I keep it on low. Then I have the 5 socket vanity light plugged in. They are both plugged into a double prong white extention cord type thing. Which plugs into an outlet.

Ive tested it out, it works well.

Now I can finally start another grow while my other plants flower, I will just have to figure out how to seal up all the light from it, and I will need another fan for it.

6 26 watt cfls are very bright, hurt to look at it. Now I just gotta get some pop and I can make some reflectors.

and thanks for the advise, I will check on the wires frequently the first day. Not sure when I am gonna start using this, I havent even germinated more seeds yet, and theres already too many lights plugged in the extention cord on the timer, for it to be plugged in and used on the plants flowering.

I've got 24 cfls in my room. After daily maintenance I can barely see to walk through the house!
