Distance from 400 watt MH?

What distance should i keep my 400 watt MH from my plant, so that i can avoid burning them?

Judge how close you can have the light by seeing if you can leave your hand in the spot where the plant top will be. If your hand is too hot the plant will be too hot. With air cooled lamps you can get within a couple inches (about 4 inches or closer). Just remember that the closer you leave the lamp your medium will dry out quicker - especially if you are using soil.

Im in the midwest where we are getting surges of arctic air. about time i start flowering it will be like NOV. So i figure since my grow is in the basement i could just get a fan to bring in air from the basement which will be at the most 50 to 60 degrees F.
