rockwool is just the medium you start your seedling in,you can use it in hydro, soil or even get a rockwool slab for it to grow on...yes you can use rockwool and water it yourself

Default Rockwool
Technically if you're not using soil, it is hydroponics. Not all hydroponics systems use pumps. Passive hydroponics, like what you're describing, doesn't require any of that.

In a word, yes, you can grow exactly as you describe. Just make sure you're using proper hydroponic nutrients even though it doesn't seem like a hydroponic system. Hydroponics is simply soil-less growing, so you'll need exceptional solubility in your nutrients just like you would in a more stereotypical hydroponic system.

I recommend Advanced Nutrients. There just isn't anything better.

I agree you can grow in rockwool with excellent results. Keep in mind you should adjust your PH when using Rockwool. Ive done just what your considering, I grew it just like hydro using hydroponic nutes and adjusting the PH. I basically works just as well as any other hydro setup. Currently I prefer to usie soil or bubbleponics.
Good luck

This is not true. Not all soil-less growing is called hydroponics. You may have heard of aeroponics and bubbleponics. Neither of these are hydroponics, and neither use soil. I would also not recommend growing in rockwool unless it is used in hydroponics. You can use it if you want, but it will dry out really fast, normally its used in applications that are watered frequently such as ebb and flow and drip emitter. If you are just starting seedlings in it, you can set the cubes in a tray with about a half inch of water in the tray. The cubes will wick up the water, kind of a ghetto hydroponic system if you will.

all of those are hydroponics..hydroponics just allows you to relax because it waters itself..main thing is hydroponics is growing without soil

This is not true there is no problem with using it in soil. It drys out as the soil dry's out then you just water again

He's talking about soiless. And the set it straight, cubes in soil dont dry out at the same rate.

Dang knowboddy was right. I looked it up and any soil-less growing is referred to as hydroponics. I am a man and I can admit when I'm wrong. I think its kind of stupid, bubbleponics, aeroponics, and normal ebb and flow or drip emitter systems are all so fundamentally different. Aeroponics are highly oxiginated and the roots grow basically in mid air, bubbleponics the roots never leave the water, and we all know how the other two work. Just doesn't make sense to me that they are all lumped into their own category. I think they should use different criteria to label something hydroponic other than just "not soil", but I don't make the rules, so oh well. I was indeed speaking of soil-less rockwool when I said it would dry out fast by the way, I think thats what the original question was. Anyway peace, sorry for my contribution to the spread of mis-information, won't happen again.

I handwatered mother plants in Hugo blocks no problem. It's as easy as it is effective.
