First Time - Just lookin for some input

This is my first time and I was wanting some input pertaining to my little buddies :leaf: I am using a 75 watt 2 foot fluorescent light for these two. I began with the light a little too far away and they got stretched out a little. I have recently moved the light closer and bent one of them slightly to hopefully increase its size down low. What do you guys think about the bend? The light doesn't put out much heat so I have it pretty close, is it too close? How much would a fan help out in this situation? I have them on a 16 light on - 8 light off hour setup. Is that adequate?

Thanks for whatever input you have

That is badly stretched, you can almost let light touch, but since the plants grow so fast 1 or 2 inches is good, just check it every day.

they are both 3 weeks old, the slow grow is due to me using a window growing plan for the first 2 weeks (bad idea) it only gave them about 6 hours of light a day, I currently have them about 1 inch away from the light and they are growing much faster.

I have also noticed the bottom leaves wilting. I am not sure but I think this may be due to me not having adequate light reaching them, but the top leaves of the plant are doing great. Should I worry about these bottom leaves dieing?

You have to move the FL closer to the plant like NoDrama and greenleaftoker recommend. However, once you do that you'll have to be vigilant about adjusting them on a daily basis. Also, make sure your FL are running the vegetative and bloom spectrums. A fan would help, but not a blast. A mild breeze will strengthen your stretched plants.

generally from what i have read on here window grows have bad yeilds due to lack of light. I remember one that was successful but it was in a greenhouse back porch thing.

Is that 75 Watt CFL all you have for growing?? or do you plan on getting more??

You can keep the lights up to 2 inches from the plant, and even an inch if you have fans running.
CFL's distribute light over a wide area, and hence the closer to the plant the more efficient the light.

It's my first grow with CFL's too, check out my grow journal.

Goodluck!

That is what I am currently using for the veg period. I was trying to keep it on the cheaper side, but not sure anymore since HPS lights seem to be essential. I am trying to keep it on the cheaper side so I wasn't too sure about buying any more lighting, but what do you guys think. I currently have the light 1 1/2 inch away from both plants. The bending that I was doing has thickened the upper stem of the second plant, but I need to get a fan soon.

Note to keep in mind is that this is my first grow and the seeds were not that high of quality so this seems to be a learning experience for when I really want to yield some potent stuff. I am looking forward to yielding some bud from this grow so, all of your input is very useful. I am learning more and more from these forums everyday.

Your going about things the right way, no need spending tons of money if you don't even know if you can get a plant to grow to harvest. Take it easy and be very patient, soil grows do take a while, your looking at 4 months. Add some more cheap Fluoros to your grow and watch the growth really start.

Window grows do not do well because modern window glass basically reflects or absorbs most of the light energy these plants need to grow big. House plants are generally from plants that do not need much sunlight as they are from regions where they are shaded by forest canopies. MJ on the other hand wants full sun as much as possible.

Yup, that's the smart way... The first grow is pretty much just about the experience... and seeing if you can really do it.
It's my first grow too, using a bunch CFL's and into the 3rd week of veg now.

Oh and.. the lower leaves according to what i've seen/experienced are the ones that frequently die... The reason of which I don't know, but it's just part of their cycle I guess... I never had to worry about it.

Goodluck!

So I have been looking into some different types of seeds and I am really liking feminized PPP. Any input on this specific kind? I have also been doing some research on making a real setup and thinking everything will cost around $400. Does this sound right?
List:
Box setup with a door: 25$
Fertilizers and such: $20
Fan: $15
HPS lighting (600w): $200
Mylar: $20
pH equalizer and meter: $30
Ventilation (tubing and vent): $20
This is all I think I will need and these are just price estimates. What do you guys think about what I have listed and anything else that a decent grower would need.

This is an update of my improved setup. I have added one more fluorescent grow light. I believe these are T8 fluorescent lights that put out 17 watts a piece. I have also added a daylight (6500k) 26 watt CFL. In addition to more lighting I figured I would have more heat so I added a small fan. I am hoping this will get the job done. I am planning on vegging for another 3ish weeks. Once I feel that they are sufficient for flowering I will switch them to the 12-12 schedule and change the CFL to a soft white bulb. Hoping for an ok yield, but we will see. Any comments will be well noted.

I have begun flowering today. I am excited to see the results in the next couple of weeks! I switched my CFL to a soft white bulb and have the 2 fluros on them. I am on a 12/12 schedule. All I have is miracle grow and they are in miracle grow soil. I have no other nutrients, so any advice on that would be helpful. I am hoping to yield a little something in 4/5 weeks. I know this is early, but will it really make a difference to yield this early. I have my reasons for stopping the grow early.

Just added my 150w HPS to the grow. Ready to watch them take off. I think I may be see'n some pistil growth, but it is still too early to tell...
