I see that some kits come with a water pump and some come with an air pump for hydroponics is there a difference in performance here I believe they are both meant to do the same thing? Wondering if one is better to go with than another....also I was considering putting two 8" air stone in my 5Gal setup is this a bit too much?

one pumps air one pumps water... not the same, if its just an air pump its probably dwc where thats all you need a water pump can go ebb flow,nft, or areo but an air pump in the res is never a bad idea

air pumps keep your res oxygenated by blowing oxygen bubbles and nut solution splashes on the hydroton then sucked up by the roots ,water pump water your plant

i use both, 2 ft flexible airstone in the bottom, and a water pump to feed active drip on the top.. active dwc man its fucking awesome.

I am going to be doing 4 plants is there such a thing as over doing the the airstones I was going to put in 2 8" airstone my container is 16"L X 12" W X 9 1/2" H. Also I was planning on using a 400W HPS in my 24cubic foot dark room (24"W X 16"D X 51"H) anybody think I will have some issues burning plants is it too much? Should I step down to a 250W prices are the same on both...

You can only overdo the airstone if it starts foaming and frothing the nute mix.

get an air cooled reflector and duct fan for the 400 if u have it already if not get the 250

Haven't picked up the 400W yet was trying to hear some things back on here first and your the 2nd one to tell me to go with the 250 so I think im going to go that way and will do on the reflector....

got one in mine the more o2 in the water the less chance of rot and nasties but like said erlyer it can be over done
