1 bag of Pro-Mix soil (or any potting soil that has NO fertilizer in it) and a bag of pearlite and sand to add drainage. 10% sand and 10% perlite and thats all you really need... the sand you can get at home depot for $5, "washed builder's sand." Make sure it states that it has been washed or it could contain salts that are bad for the plants! The perlite can be costly, a lot of companies overcharge for it and if it's pricey you can just use the sand. Worm castings are always good to add but aren't that necessary and are not always easy to find. Hope that helps!

What is it you're trying to achieve by doing this? What's wrong with traditional shop bought compost/soil mixes? My advice is to stick with shop bought compost mixes until you've got the experience and knowledge to be able to confidently mix up your own. To mix your own you need to understand how the various elements can affect the N-P-K ratios, what propotions they need to be used in, what elements help water retention, soil aeration, water drainage, ph buffering etc.

never reuse soil, by the time you buy all the goodies to make your soil ideal you could simply have purchased a good mix.

From experence finding soil with low to no compost mix can be challenging, alot of these mixes will contain time realease ferts.

if its continues feed why would you mix all the blood, bonemeals in it those are both very high in nitrogen. and as for the mix it all depends on what you are doing (indoor-outdoor) for indoor you want a very light mix high in sphagnum very little if any soil . and perlite. for out doors you want something that is going to drain but also retains moisture so you dont have to carry water every other day.

From your local Hydro store get some Promix, vermiculite and Perlite.
Mix in the portions of 50% promix, 35% perlite and 15% vermiculite. This mix is nice and loose and will promote great and fast root growth. All though it doesn't retain water that well it is good for beginners because it will help safeguard against over watering. Plus if a beginner runs into problems with PH or over fertilization the properties of this soil make it quick and easy to remedy.

delta9 obviously you did not do your research before making a statment like that...both blood meal and bone meal are not high in nitrogen...

blood meal....Blood meal is dried, powdered blood used as a high-nitrogen fertilizer....Apply during the growing season

bone meal....As a fertilizer, bone meal is primarily used as a source of phosphorus. bone meal is ideal for flowering and roots...

with this being said, this is why i make the soil that i make...my veg mix is high in nitrogen which the plants love, and during flower my plants are high on phosphorus which my plants love...i learned this recipe for the BOG (bushy old grower) and i dont doubt any of his technigues...

this site needs more reputable growers and not just someone on there first grow giving advice...although all advice is welcome, wrong advice could lead too prblems for the grower...good luck to all
