The great mr.Cash certainly was a legend and a half, I will agree with you right there.
I'd argue though, that you'd be missing out moreso without some tool, pink floyd, beatles, queen, Mr stevie ray and clapton over Johnny.

Haha! My da used to listen to johnny cash when i was younger and i was never into it, but it seems as i get older i've started to like alot more music then i used to! So yea johnny fairly cool!

Cash was the man, he done it the way he wanted to, trying to stick it to the man. As a rule I can't stand country (stuff like dolly, sorry if I upset anyone) but Johnny can make me see beyond that, a true lyrical genius with a sense of humor, just think of sue.
