the jump in PPM would be water evaporating... my setup does this...add water to your fill line ph'ed of course and the ppm goes right back to where you were... keep close eye on your fill line...when it drops your PPM will spike up high!!

The roots just do a real good job of following the flow of the nutes, on my drain tubes to the res, as time goes push them more up into the pvc fence post making your "river" deeper to cover root mass as they get bigger, this is what i do works good, they do get tangled but as long as i can pull...

h2o is water.. there are many different setups all very easy to build yourself. search or go to the FAQ page it will tell you alot

you will eventually need more than one CFL and good lights are not cheap. you should first germ your seeds if your not growing from a clone from a previous plant. I know you should not use clear pots for your soil or hydro grow.

i just order a gallon of ph down from GH...no wonder my plants are looking so light... thanks to my new nutrient control wizard or i would never have caught it. my other was way off calibration!
