Well I haven't got to use my 500 w for a full "Flowering" cycle yet. I introduced them while the plants were about 5 weeks in. I saw a noticeable difference in a week. It was density. I have them flushing now, but its the next grow im looking forward to.
But I also use a 250W led for Vegging...
Are my new 500W Blackstar LED's Red enough for you...dude?
Edit: Actually, there's alot of different spectrums in my LED set. Some lights look like they are off/ or very very dim, that's because our eyes simply can't see the light wave. The point of this LED set is that there is no green...
Speaking of Spectrum--here's a little example of spectrum and my Budding 500w LED Blackstar.
Basically, the light is so purple that when im checking the trichs I have to shut it off.
So I use my jeweler's loupe, and a white basic led flashlight--its bright as heck.
So after my check I turned...
For me....I try not too over fuss the old roots too much.
I remove any large root matter by hand; with gloves.
Then I soak the hydroton in an H2O2 solution using plastic laundry baskets as strainers.
Let them soak, then I rinse. Then soak my hydroton in a 5.8 ph bath of H2O.
By that point...
This is from my Multi spectrum grow. The idea here is that you bud and flower under the same light.
So you only have to change the timer from 20/4 to 12/12. All the light they need in both vegging and flowering is here.
I used a flood table and the full grow journal can be found im sig...
Welp....
He's my 250w Blackstar I use for Vegging (I use a 500W for Flowering)...I use a drip irrigation system for vegging and a flood bed for Flowering.
I think it does alright---the second pic is the root ball of a couple of ladies that I tossed (for room and clones).
It does great when...
Id say res changes. I mean that's really where the work is ( I haul buckets; some peeps have a valve/pump set up) .
I have two reservoirs. So im changing the water from one of them all the time. After a couple of years; it becomes the "work" portion of growing ( totally worth it of course). My...
I started growing using T5's...and I had some awesome harvests. But I switched to LED'S because they are up to snuff if you spend a bit up front (although it is basically, still, a buck a watt). You get that money back 10x fold with electrical savings-no problem. They run even cooler than my...
Hey guys--just 8 plants.
Some are topped, some are super topped.
Still the same strain, same tent, same lights.
Only difference is my NFT table is is used for clones and veg.
In May Im adding 240w Blackstar LEDs Specific for Veg and Clones (NFT) . Pictures soon.
So 1 year experience with...
Lets not split hairs.
Most meters use EC to determine TDS. Which is more than fine for 99% of grows.
But either way--Im not sure why someone would use nutes that don't show up on an EC reading? When all the tried tested and true ones do.
Of course...Im guessing that all the other nute...
The thing to know here:
EC or TDS (Total dissolved solids) is effected only by water soluble elements.
For example: Your Nutes are water soluble, therefore effect your EC reading.
While Hydroton is NOT water soluble, therefore will not effect your readings.
That's how I look at it.
Thanks---its been awhile since i updated---so here's a summary:
Since you are reading this back to my first grow (wow--it will be 1 year ago I made this journal very soon). Here are some changes and plants from 2010/2011.
Anyways I still have the core system. The big difference is I have made...
I noticed that you are using planters in your flood table.
My vote is you are under feeding: here's why:
If you try this flood calculator you'll notice that they want you to figure out how much liquid your medium and media holds. The greater this mass.(by mass I mean the "Mass" of the water...
