I think I would try a strong H2O2 solution before I would try vinegar. I think you would have better results. I really do like the idea of giving them a steam bath via the dish washer though. :)

The two go hand in hand though. Without more/more efficient airstones, there is no point to a bigger air pump. Without a bigger air pump, you can't push the more/more efficient airstones to their limit, in turn making them pointless. But with BOTH... I think some serious improvements can happen...

I've heard the micropore ones that are well built can be boiled to unclog them. The cheaper, fish tank style ones I would just pitch and buy new. They usually run what, $2-3 a piece? Well worth it for piece of mind. :)

Figured I would follow up my own post. Got one of the retailers of the disc on the line, and to put the disc to its upper limit pump wise, you need to be in the neighborhood of 141 lpm PER DISC. Legallyflying, this would explain why pushing 4 of them with 110 lpm didn't do much. You would need...
