I do, for the same reason, not got room for a flowering AND dedicated veg chamber at moment. You can without any real problems, only downside is it may take a 'little' bit longer. Mine are doing very well in 12/12.

Different strains = different smells and levels of odour. Some stink the whole place out, others don't, don't think smell alone is a direct indicator for potency.
