I agree, don't use organics in hydro; it get's nasty in thurrrr. Is this your water temperature? If your room temperature is that, you can bet your res climbs up there too. If your res is over 75 I could rank that as issue #1. Have you looked at the roots; nothing growing on them? Cheers,

I just picked up some uniseal / bulkhead fittings from eBay. Cheaper than I found at any online store and shipping was fast!

I'm wondering why you chose the location you did for the res? Are you having multiple lights at the side? It seems to me hanging a light from the center - above would provide a lot of light/heat for that res. Personally I would tuck the buckets a tad closer together and pull the res farther out.

I would worry about solving this before worrying about a drain. Dancing around the low-mid 70's can make things turn bad - fast.

What is your res temperature? You mentioned 73-79, but is that room or res? I would put my concern at removing that scum you have in your bucket. First and foremost I would bring temperatures below 70. I've never used Aquashield so I can't comment on how effective it is, however H202 at 30% or...
