You can drio into pots filled with hydroton. Set the pots in the tray and it drains from there. Lets you move em.and easier to cleanup later.

Home depot should have large black concrete tubs, perfect for a diy tray. You can buy the drain plugs online or at a local store. Might want to consider a drip system, easy to setup on a budget.

Guessing the 8 minute spec is an estimate for a computer, i suspect pumps would use less wattage... But not sure.

Yeah, that's how I am setup. I guess what I meant is he'd have to have the tray higher than the top of the drum (or waterline if he had holes cut in the side and ran the feed and overflow through) in order for the tray to drain back into the res. Those drums are like what? maybe four feet...

So the pump can push the water up into the tray and switch to pull water back into the res? Neat, i have a cheapo pump and just use gravity.

Juat curiuos, are you going to be able to drain to something so tall? Or are you going to cut holes in the side?

I know this really is an open question as i have a feeling it really depends on strain, but i am curious how many folks actually use the recommended nute levels in bloom. In my experience I have to go well under the minimum dose recommended on the bottle (one part). Later in bloom i hover...

Trying to solve this myself and one thing i've consistantly read is too much nitrogen can cause curl. Aka "clawing" Just my two cents... Maybe some pics would help more experienced folks to help you out.

Just hang a length of chain between the ceiling and the hangers... When they get taller remove the chains.

Not to hijack your thread, but if the roots have really spread into a bit of standing water would it be best to chop them if they start to brown at all?

I would consider the pssibility of creating a haven for mold before venting into your floor. :(
