I use side lighting as well, I don't notice a big difference but feel like it can't hurt.I do have to be careful with heat, so my side lighting is only 40 w each. If heat is not an issue definitely go for it.

I do the same thing keeping the probe in the shade, you get a accurate reading of air temperature. When i was in the dollar store I found a box of those little drink umbrellas. I place it at the top of the spike with the probe directly under it like Star dog does. The creativity is half the fun.

my thermometer has an inside and outside reading with a remote sensor for outside. I mount this on a spike at canopy level. This helps me to know light placement (how high or low). A couple inches can make a difference.

Unfortunately I have no experience with coco I use soil. FFOF which has enough nutrients to last a month of water only. when I start to fertilize (feed) every third watering unless the plants show otherwise. Hopefully somebody can respond with more experience with coco. I only water when leaves...

Yes your calculations are correct .when my plants are young I use 1\4 strength and work up to 1\2 strength. good luck
