Yes preflowers usually start to show within 4-6 weeks of veg but tend not to fully develope until flowering. With experience you can usually differentiate the males and females not long (week or so) after the preflowers start to develope while in veg.

My most recently harvested plant had a few of these as well. They were popping off of leaves that turned dark purple late in flower. Are you spotting these on purple leaves/buds also?

That's the exact one I have and it does work but a 60x would probably be better IMO. Just make sure to have the little LED off when checking the trics or it can be hard to differentiate clear and cloudy. dee
