On the conversion, I was limited on the lower res size so I filled them and used the air pump to water twice a day. after the pump shuts off it all drains back.
If you have a large enough res under the controller you can drill your over flow hole a little higher. This will give you a true ebb and flow and no need for the air pump. Just drill more holes in the upper buckets for better drainage.
Here's the deal, with a true ebb and flow you will need much more water.
If you are carring bottles up there I would consider either the combo conversion I did or converting to a drip system untill you get an R/O
The amount of times you water depends, start with twice a day and go from there. Roots need water and air so they actually need humidity. With T5's you will retain more than with HPS.
