make sure your lights not very close , CFL's need to be super close but your HPS needs some room, put your hand between the light and the plant and if it burns you it will burn the plant , that's how you can test to see how far away it needs to be , Also are you useing any Foiler Sprays ?

There's no way a 1k watt light is doing that to the plants , that's not Heat burn its Nute burn, heat burn makes then hard and crunchy like your about to smoke it, Nute burn will yellow your leaves. Flat out!!
