yeah i heard the same thing...apparently the soap dehydrates them and they die, i like to stay away from all the chemicals myself so that's a great way to go and of course I'm always promoting ladybugs, they are awesome!
when i first had the mildew thing, i did the baking soda while i was waiting for my neem oil, that helped the mildew (or whatever its called) right away and i just read the other day that the dish liquid dehydrates and kills them (again just a tiny bit with some water and oil) what if you also...
for hydro they sell some clearing solution, or they say you can go down to 1/4 nutes. i just did RO. too bad you dont have pics, but dont assume its dead and toss...just go thru the final steps of cutting and drying...

any better today?
well then you should get some ladybugs....in the meantime some neem oil would be great to spray. if you dont have neem oil you can use vegetable oil with some water and a couple drops of liquid dishwashing detergent. this will kill them off and also kill the possible mildew you have...ladybugs...
are they ladybugs? they can be orange also. they are great for your plants so if they are ladybugs be sure to keep em. they will eat spider mites, aphids, etc.
