I'd give the PHRESH brand a try then, that's what I've been using and love it.

Don't mean to bump this but since its already been bumped.. Lumatek makes a dual output ballast that can run 2 600w bulbs. I think lumatek is the only one doing this. I've heard some bad stories about this as well. I would seriously consider not cheaping out and just running 1 bulb 1 ballast.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Since this is a brand new setup I have no mother.. So I'll try a little experiment.. Ill put some beans in rooter cubes and some straight into the hydroton once they germ. I may need to hand water the beans not in the plugs at first so they don't get too dry...

Definitely a much bigger yield with the HPS bulbs. I grew with flouros/cfls for quite a while, and it does have its pros like cheap on the electric bill, low heat, low cost if you don't buy the ones specifically for growing. You can use single cfl bulbs to spot light and get some nice looking...

Yep like others have stated, use the paper towel method for sure. Miracle grow will kill your seedlings everytime. Learned from experience haha. Sounds like you've got it worked out now, good luck!
