Check out this guys grows, he uses CFL's with great results. I think he uses a combination of frequencies throughout the entire grow.

I am personally not a CFL grower, I use HID lamps like HPS and MH so I don't know a great deal about them but heaps of guys use them on here successfully.
Nutrient wise you need NPK - Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium, for growing. Higher N in vegging stage and higher Pand K in flower, but you always need all three just in different quantities.

I have several other msgs for when you have time, but as long as i use the right light frequency(6500k veg, 3000k bud) and get enough lumens, flouresant lights can be used right? just checkin cause at this site i kno they are pretty cheap.
