It appears that our government has certainly done research on MM. So much that the Department of Health and Human Services has claimed a patent for it. The story can be found at Marijuana Law Reform - NORML and the patent info can be found here: Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants - US Patent 6630507

Now can someone with a chemistry background translate the research into laymans terms? Wonder if the patent could be bought from the DHHS?
