tennessee lawmakers heard testimony tuesday 11-13-2007 on legalizing the medicinal use of marijuana, although the idea has failed in the general assembly before and it's future is uncertain. members of the health and human resources committee heard testimony on a bill sponsored by rep. sherry jones, a nashville democrat.
people speaking against the bill were, william benson assistant director of the tenn. bureau of investigation, he said the bill could present complication for tenn.law enforcement because tenn. is a leading producer of marijuana. also, dr. kent shih with the tennessee oncology association said marijuana is an impractical drug that does not have sustained effects and cancer patients have other much more effective drugs availible. david fowler, a former state senator who is president of the family action council of tenn., said organizations that support the use of medical marijuana could use the legislation to open the door to overall legalization.
The aricle in the Tennessean newspaper did not say if anybody spoke in favor of the bill, I think rep. jones has her hands full.

yes...the article said there were 26 state legislatures considering similar bills...

that news is the best news i've heard all day. Legalisation is just around the corner... i can feel it.
