Default Help Getting Legal in Michigan
Hey guys I need some help here. Ok. So here's my situation. I suffer from classic migraines. They happen just about everyday and last all day long. They are so severe, I can't do much of anything but wince and vomit. I have seen my doctor about this. He prescribed me two kinds of medicne for this. Needless to say they don't work. I've used marijuana in the past to effectly treat this problem. So, I was going to try and get legal by going to my doctor a few more times about this and take my chart notes to a marijuana clinic. Well that plan got shot all to hell because I can no longer see my doctor due to insurance reasons.

So, I have tried searching the internet for pot friendly doctors in my state, but I just keep coming up with compassion clubs, NORML, and doctors in California. I have been at this for 6+ long months and I'm trying to cut the b.s. out and just find a regular doctor who would be able to help me out here. I am at the end of my rope.

So I was wondering if there was anyone out there who could help me. Does anyone know of any doctors in Michigan who would give me a recomendation? Cost is no issuse provided I can pay cash. Location is also not an issue provided that it's in Michigan. And if no one knows of any doctors, does anyone know about any loopholes or tricks or something that could help? Thanks guys.

My suggestion would be to attend a compassion club meeting in your area and ask around. Folks are very helpful about this subject. Honestly, it's not that hard to get your card in MI, and even easier if you have a medical history and the knowledge of where to go.

I'd mention a few places, but i don't feel it's "safe" nor my place to do so as i don't currently keep up with MI doctors anymore.

Try craigslist as well. I'm sure there is talk about it on there in your area.

Thanks for the ideas man. I was thinking about going to a compassion club meeting beforehand, but I was kinda skeptical seeing as I don't think there would be alot of folks in this part of the state who would be using medical marijuana, partly due to the amount of people here and the general mindset of this area. I'm going to go to one, and in the mean time I'll see if I can't get any help from NORML.

Thanks again.

If your doctor can document that you have "Chronic Nausea" that should be enough to get you a card in Michigan.

Try The Hemp and Cannabis Foundation - 1-800-723-0188

I do have chronic nausea and pain as a result of the migraines. I'm hugging the toilet bowl half the time during a Migraine. I told my doctor that, but I don't know if he wrote it down or anything. I haven't been prescibed anything for nausea, just for prevention and for pain when they start . How would I get that documented? And I called the hemp and cannabis foundation several times since the passing of the Michigan medical marijuana act and have yet to hear back from them.

Thanks for the advice though.

Default Having a Hard time in Michigan also...
I am in a similar situation. I have Crohn's disease. it has even caused two umbilical hernias. My problem is that my father is my primary physician and will not listen to the idea of medical marijuana even though I tell him how helpful it is. He treats me as needed so I don't have medical records that i can obtain from him to fulfil the needs of the clinics. (I have called and tried a few). The most recent documentation I can find on my own is from 1996 stating that I have IBS (irritable bowels syndrome). Finding a doctor who is willing to help out would be tremendous and save me from many gruelling tests. If I find any doctor to help I will pass on the helpful information as I am sure you will as well. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. This Forum is great and to the community who has helped Michigan make it as far as we have I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Looking forward to see even more progress. Time we hopefully heal us all as the nation wakes up. Times are looking better than ever.

Take Care and be Well,
G

I don't know about Michigan law,but here in my area in California we have to see our general practicioner, and then with documentation of our ailments, we go to a pot doc. The med records have to be current ie: within the previous year. The documents you have re: your Migranes should be enough to get a recommendation - when the pot doc interviews you you just can elaborate about how sick the migraines make you, and how the trad drugs don't work as well as the MJ.

To the Crohns guy, can you just go to a walk in med clinic and get an IBS diagonsis? That should work. I understand tho the prob of not wanting to go through extensive/expensive testing again, but maybe the price is worth it to get legal?

My daughter was able to get a recommendation just by bringing in her records from her chiropractor for chronic back pain.
Here, the primary docs don't need to know you are bringing in documents for a MMJ recommendation. I don't even mention to my reg physician after a bad experience mentioning to a neurologist I was sent to.

Hope this was of some help - compassionate care it where it's at. Best of luck to you both.
