Marijuana legalised in the UK for medical use
I see that marijuana has been legalised in the UK for medical use.
The only UK licence to use marijuana for medical purposes has been granted to GW Pharmaceuticals.
Check out the website at :-

The company have produced medicines to help Multiple Sclerosis suffers, which have already been approved for sale in Canada.
Is this a major softening of the UKs anti-marijuana laws, or yet more mixed signals from the UK Government?

Approved for sale? It can still only be prescribed right?

Well, I suppose it is a little bit of softening but there appears to be a few catches.
We've had several programmes on TV here over the last few years saying how it helped MS sufferers, but it was always quantified by the "it can do you more harm than good," brigade.
Looks like the gov have finally come round to thinking it can be beneficial but benefitted the pharmacutical giants into the bargain.

if there's money to be made... the government will get into it!

The drugs will only be available on very secure prescription, but bit by bit the government seem to be softening their stance on marijuana .
The drugs have been cleared for use in Canada, and more countries are surely going to follow in due course.

Well our lot have struggled against it for years, so the medical benefits must have been made really clear now, for them even to go this far.
It's a shame that it's taken them this long and so many people have had to suffer.

The Governments stance has been softening for a while now - seldom will you see those caught in possession get anything more than a slapped wrist.
Fact of the matter is that marijuana is less damaging than say tobacco or alcohol. Those have been freely available for years, and account for a huge number of deaths globally, so you've got to wonder what grounds they have for not legalising it completely.
That said, I do applaud their move towards making it available for medicinal use, as I know that it is far preferable to strong painkillers.
