| | Leaf structure collapse, curling | | Hey there! Four-time pot grower here, finally trying my first indoor setup.
It's pretty simple, just good ol' soil n' water. I haven't had the budget to upgrade my lighting system to a nice HPS setup yet, so I've been using two compact fluoros and two big halogens.
Yeah, I know, halogens suck - and theyre damn hot. Therein lies (I think) my problem. About a month in now, and there has been alot of leaf damage on almost every plant. Have a look:
As you can see there is something wrong. From what I gather this is indicative of a temperature problem, just looking for a second opinion and maybe some advice. My venting options are limited.
[b]Here are some shots of the otherwise healthy looking ladies [b]

| | well you answered your own post, get those halogens off those plants and replace with some more cfl's ( lots more ). It looks like they could use a fan as well to strengthen those stems

| | halogens are as good as heat lamps, I don't think they offer anything beneficial for growing atleast thats what I was told. I think you need more light (cfls) and some wind/fan stimulation they look really thin and wispy, the fan blowing the plant will gradually strengthen it. My plant is a tenth the height of yours and the stem is thick as your pinky. Ive topped and done lst on it so that I can veg it decently under 5cfls until I get my 600w, through growing like this I can keep the lights real close, but I have 5 cfls on 1 plant, you look to have several plants. With the damage I beleive your basically cooking your plant under the halogens...anyone else?

| | Thanks for the quick response. I think I will be buying some more compact fluoros, but theyre like 40 bucks a pop where I live, to buy a bunch of them would be more expensive than getting a 500w ish HPS. I might just screw my party budget a bit and splurge on the nice lights.
Yeah also the stems are kinda spindly and weak, I'm used to growing outdoors so its never really been a problem until now. I just tried putting a fan on them, but even on a low setting it bent the plants half over, doesn't look safe to leave em like that, like it might stress them too much or break their stems. Any suggestion for gradually strengthening stems without using a constant fan? |

| | Thanks, yeah I'm pretty sure it's just the heat now.
Anyone know a good ratio of lumens/watts per tree using compact fluoros? |

| | AS MANY AS YOU CAN, cfl's are weak. as I said I have 5 on one and I still need more. Cut out all the greif and go HID. Until then get 4 per plant if you can. Higher wattage is better on the box of the bulb it will say like 100w equivilent, but the wattage is only actually 23w so make sure you look for the highest wattage possible. Look for blue daylight bulbs too, the light from them will be very white/bluish. The gals love em.

| | you can go to walmart and pick up a 2 pack of 150 watt equivalent for 17$ Walmart.com - Always Low Prices! or a 4 pack of 100w for 8$ http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=7850184 you want the daylight bulbs for veg and the warm for flower i believe or just get a mixed spectrum and run both

| | Oh and with the fan, let it barely blow the tops of the plants, just enough to get the plants moving around, then keep moving the fan every few days to blow more of the plant. CFLS for 40 bucks shit!! I would just buy a 600w outright then, here the nicest brightest ones are just a little over 8 bucks, you can get a box of 4 regular bright ones for 7 bucks. If your still having trouble with the fans let me know. As is true with LST, if the plant isn't ripping out the ground its not too much stress. Make sure you get constant air stimulation, your stems will thicken up in no time.
