Default Soil Flush ==> soil ventilation problem
Since my soil flush the soil on both my plant seem to have lost it's ventilation properties. My plants always seem to be overwatered even though I'm not watering them as often. Is it possible for a soil flush to cause a ventilation proble on the soil????? . I really can tell the difference in my soil , now it looks thick.....need help... I'm thinking to change the soil ... not entirely but still , change it... I'm also thinking of doing it with the light closed so that I don't hurt the roots ? any pointers ????

I have 4 gallon plastic pots and if I feel the roots aren't getting enough air I can pick up the pots and squeese them and break up the soil to get air to the roots.

you need some perlite in the mix. At least 40% perlite.
I use 1pt peat moss, 1pt perlite, 1 par mushroom compost. I add 1 tablespoon of lime per gallon of soil. My mix drains real well and is light and fluffy.

It depends on how long they have been in the 4 gallon pots. How big are the plants? I moved my plants from 1 gallon to 4 gallon pots. Be careful. Have your new soil ready to go the least amount of stress you cause the better. I use FF ocean forest and perlite in a 40/60 mix. I have flushed every ten days for the last 6 weeks I have no problem with compacted soil.

i have 5 gal buckets that have screen lined at the bottom so that roots cant grow through. use aluminum screen and there will be no rust and drainage will create breathing passages that the roots will love.
