I have 2 plants growing in their first set of leaves of 5 and I'm running them under a cfl light (150 watts) coming down from above and a 50 watt cfl giving them light coming in from the right hand side. So my question is if I but the 150 watt cfl light about 6 inches away from the top of my plants will the heat burn the leaves, and if so does cfl lights give off more heat than hps, correct me if I"m wrong but the way I see it, since I've never worked with hps lights, hps give off more light spectrum and lumens but not as much heat as cfls lights? so if you have any suggestions, let me know

no it should not burn your leafs 6inches is fine and cfls barley give off heat at all. just have good air flow, fan blowing. and hps lights give off more of everything including heat. hope i helped you.
by the way i have the 42W cfls and i have them 2iches away and they dont burn it at alll.. but im sure the 150W would give more heat off so 6inches shood be safe |

ya at first when my other two start slouching I thought it was because I was giving it to much heat from that light but from reading on other subjects I see now that it could of been a numerous of things. This is my first attempt at soil so everything is up in the air kinda. But thanks for the advice. Do you happen to know what water temperature the water is suppose to be at and how much I'm suppose to be watering them?

Actually, not true. It's the way the light makes the light that produces the heat. The 150w cfl isn't actually working on 150w. It just gives out the same lumes per square inch as a 150w bulb. The Hps needs a ballast that is powerful enough to cause the bulb to arch across the gas in the bulb. The cfl doesn't need as much electricity and it's starter is located in the base of the bulb. Cfl's run cool enough to have within inches of your plants but they also lack the strength of the HPS to push it's usable light energy deep into the plant. But with the ability to get so close to the plant it allows you to use them in places that you can't put an HPS light like under the plants shining up into the lower parts of the plant.
