Help and advice with hermies please.

Hi all,

I have been reading many forums but this is my favourite and I need some help and advice.

I am a mature grower in the UK.

Last year I grew 11 plants in my greenhouse and garden, think they were Big bud and a mystery variety. Out of 11 plants I got 3 females, which I thought was bloody bad luck!! Got some really nice smoke out the 3 females though!

This year I decided to attempt an indoor grow. I made a grow room in my loft and insulated it. I have a 600W light with a 200w grow light back up. I have an extractor fan with carbon filter, a desktop fan, a heater and all the right nutrients. I am growing in soil.

To avoid the bad luck I had last year with all the males I thought I would invest in some quality femenised seeds. I bought 10 White widow and 10 Blueberry from Dutch Passion and had 5 femenised Bigbang thrown in from Greenhouse seeds.

I only planned to grow 10 plants so did a mix from all 3.

I am confident I have my set up just right after plenty of reading and research.

Anyway, they are just 2 weeks into flowering now after 4.5 weeks of veg. They grew at an amazing rate compared with my out door grow last year.

I have just thrown out one definate male. It is the first time I have comes across hermies but I think I have at least 4. I plan to leave them a couple of more days to let them develope a little more.

In the more experienced growers opinions, what should I do with the hermies if that is what they turn out to be ??
Most of the reading I have done suggests to throw them out to. Have I bought shit seeds ?? I am very disappointed to say the least. Out of 10 plants, I might only be left with 4 or 5 if I am lucky. There has definately been no light leakage as my loft area is pitch black and I have left them alone in the hours of darkness. I know everything else in the room and environment is OK for them. The only thing I can think that may have stressed them slightly is a variation in temperature occasionally.

I have a min max digital temp gauge and occasionally it has dropped to 17 degrees c and occasionally gone up to 32 but the average and has mostly been around then 25 mark. It has been hard to regulate the temp as we have been experiencing outside temps of -7 to 15 !!!!

I have been giving nutrients at just the right level and the soil PH is fine.

All I want out of this grow is enough to sell to cover my set up costs and some nice smoke for me and my mate over the summer.

Should I throw out every hermie I see ?? Will they ruin all the rest of the plants ?? If it turns out that most are Hermies, should I still throw them all out. In a mild panic about it at the moment !!

Finally can anyone give any advice as to where I might of gone wrong ?? and can anyone recommend a good place to buy seeds ?

Please ask any questions, I can provide some pictures if needed.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Rich.

Hi, thanks for reply,

I have no other room to put them in and they are at least 6-7 weeks off finishing (I was planning to flower them for 8 weeks). They are not starting to develope mature buds yet but I can see at least 4 with female hairs and small male balls.

I have heard so many people say to get rid but I want to be sure.

Thanks.

Hi rich welcome to the forum. I had a hermie that seeded my whole crop so I experimented when I had room. Planted seeds from the hermie's they hermied again. I get rid of all the hermies.
Cloning the females you have will eliminate this problem. That is the difference from out side to inside for a lot of us. In our climate we only have one growing season so cloning is not practical. Inside we have unlimited seasons so getting rid of males and hermies, using clones of known females eliminates the need for seeds.

nomadstardancerdoes anybody have a picture of what a good bud looks like, so I can figure out what I have

Hey Nomad, saw your posts. You can find pictures of good bud all over the site. You need to start a journal and post some pictures. That way you can keep all of your questions together with the information pertaining to your grow. We want to help you, make it easy for an old man to do so. VV

victor has the right idea if you dont have another room clone the females, you will have more good size plants sooner than you think and you will forget about the hermie you cut down.
definately do something with the hermie butter or bubble hash read the cooking section

I agree with mindless. Everyone is on a witch hunt for hermies, but it's very rare that a plant shows any signs of hermy. There have been times I've found a few seeds, but I've never actually found the hermie before. People are usually just looking for an excuse for their revegging plants. It's like calling someone a faggot for anything but being gay.

If you don't see an entire area becoming male, you aren't going to see many seeds anyway..

Male parts are obvious when they get bigger...

I'm thinking light leak of some kind. Even the slightest will throw them off their photoperiod. The later this happens in flower the more risky I think it is than when you have just flipped them to 12:12. I've grown loads of GH Seeds and never had a hermie.
