Default Is this a Sulfur problem? Purple leaf stems

    Hi All,

I am 4 weeks into my grow and the last two weeks I've been noticing the leaves between the veins have some lime green coloring, the leaf stems have purple bleeding in (see the pic below) and the base of the main stem is starting to look like more like wood. It's getting shiny and rough like a tree seedling would. While it's not serious and seems to be in the early stages, I don't want to let it get out of hand and lose them.

I have a copy of the marijuana Horticulture Indoor/Outdoor Medical Growers Bible by Jorge Cervantes. The nutrients section has depictions and descriptions of some common issues and from what I've read, a sulfur problem is causing the soil ph to get a little out of whack.

Just a note before I start, I was NOT using nutrients when this started

    Here's my regimen:

    - I water plants a couple of hours after lights on using tap water, a 10-15-10 nutrient mix at half strength. The nutrient mix also contains trace micronutrients Iron, Manganese and Zinc which I read was also good for them because many mediums lack them.

    - I am on a 19/5 schedule using 6-23w CFL 5000K bulbs just inches away. Here's my grow journal with shots of my homemade rig and the babies.

    - Soil is Organics Vigoro. It's available locally and I read a few forums where people have used it seedling to harvest so that's what I went with.

Today I started using distilled water with my mix. I don't drink the tap water here, it's very drinkable but probably not good for my babies. It was probably a stupid idea to feed it to my babies but I did.

Am I on the right track? Or am I going in the wrong direction? Please help me out here, I want to correct the issue so they don't suffer.

did just make my fist watering ..

how long time schould I reccon ther will go before I can see any signs (that is of course if this is my problem aswell ?)

my leaves also had this problem in Veg .. did a repot and it did go away more or less .. still have purple steams a bit .. now I got it agin .. and is in 3th week of flowering .. in 7 gallons pots .. so dont want to repot .. so hopefully Epsom salt will help ?

Look up MG deficiency....there is not a doubt that that is what it is my brother or I certainly wouldn't have advised you to do this! jack...The purple stem's could...be a precurrser of the deficiency...but...It could also be genetic's...so no worry about that you will see the improvement on the rate it is growing ie faster..and the new growth will not show yellow between the vein's on the leave's! This will slow down progress....The problem took 3-5 week's to show and you can't fix that in a day...plant's are good at assimilating nute's through the stomata when necessary! (The pore's under the leaf where aspiration take's place...) remember a little goe's a long way and apply sparingly as any aplication as you can allway's kick it up but a burn is a serious issue!! don't force your plant's slow down enjoy the grow and don't rush...the benefit's are many! wishing you the best! jack...do a little reading on this....there are different application method's...jack

Also some strains have purple stems, it could be genetics or it could actually be a deficiency.

when you have magnesius deficiency your leaves will start to go yellow but the vain (stems on the under side of the leaf will stay green and the rest will turn yellow)

your plant need some extra magnesius (epson salt) when you turn them over to flower
but remember that epson salt has a very high ec level and more than 1 teaspoon per 10ltrs could be to much with nutes
    and stress your plants
dissolve in small amount of boiling water add to more cold water and then to the water/nutes

    hope this helps

    a littel reading:

    http://www.saltworks.us/salt_info/ep...s-benefits.asp

explain a littel of what epsom salt is and what the use of it are ..
in the bottom of the pages ther is a few lines about plants .. note: for plants in general ..

but do give a good picture of what it is and what it do ..
Take my advice !! ... I dont use it anyway ...

Thanks for the advice! However, I went and read up on Magnesium deficiency and it's not describing my conditions at all. I don't have yellowing leaf tips, dark green veins, dark spots or any of the other symptoms. It's like a lime green between the veins instead of a deep green like I would expect. It's hard to catch in a picture but it's easy to see when they're under the light. The only thing I could get to show in the picture is the purple stem. The edges of the leaves near the leaf stem are kind of wrinkled and this same green color. Any other opinions?
