i hav been researching and asking people for days wat to do and cant find an answr about wats wrong with my friends 3week olds. the new growth on top is always the greenest, but big fan leaves that are gettin sun and lower leaves are yellow. on the biggest andbest plant the lowest 2 fan leaves are completly yellow and dry crispy. havnt fed yet xcept few times 1/4 strength fox farm trio, soil is ffof, and i do not overwater but they r droopy, the biggest leaves on the big 1 are curling up at thesides and spotted yellow. the temps r never above 84, and the stems on some r red. please tell me wats wrong, 400w hps about 16 in from tops +reps any help appreciated. basics are covered such as distilled room temp water 18/6

I don't use FF but a 1/4 strength doesn't sound like you have overfed. Possible problems, nutrient lock out from overfeeding...although I doubt that. Sounds a bit too early to have nitrogen problems if your soil has added food.

I check the weight of my pots when dry and wet, I find it useful to know this, then you can really tell if your plants need water.
Possibly micronutrient problem if new growth is staying green and old leaves are yellowing. Are other leaves turning light green? possibly molybdenum.

Any pics?

i think the ocean forest can go like a month before nutes r needed...thats y i said overfed
also,if ur plants leaves r drooping or twisting and its not a moisture problem, then ur ph is off

thnx everyone. cant post pics rite now or i would, but my waters ph is 7.0, and ocean forest is supposed to b balanced already. and no i didnt use all 3 of the trio just ones im suposed 2. could cold air that im lettin in from outside to keep temps down hav somthin 2 do with it? i have covered all bases it seems like, and still havin problems. tried watering more and less, feeding and then not. is 7.0 ph too high to water with? i have general hydro ph control kit? only 1 out of 9 is the deep rich green ivegrown before, and thats the droopiest one. the rest have leaves a little light green but healthy loookin, biggest 1 has twisty droopy yelllow old and big lower leaves with red stems that droop all the way to the floor like l the leaves r too heavy . new post with pics soon as i can but what is goin on here??

7 isnt too high but i would settle for 6.5-6.8
take ur ph7 water and pour about 1/3 of the pot size in ur pot.....let it sit for 5 min...then pour more water until it comes out of the drain holes
collect the first bit that comes out and test the ph
if ur ph is in range, then i would attribute the problem to under/overfeeding or rootzone problems (pics would be helpful though)
so if the ph is fine,i would use straight water for a couple waterings and see if the problem slows down
if not, then start back ur nutes and gradually raise the ppm until the problem stops
and fyi,u should always water/feed ur pot until it has runoff and only do it when it needs it
hope this helps some

thanks it does . only thing is that if i ph test the runoff, its a brown colored water which will affect the color of the solution and i hav 2 match the color with a key 2 figure the ph? also i always just water until it comes out the bottom. bump anyone else think of nething?

well, u could get a ph meter
or for a simple diy test... http://frugalliving.about.com/od/gardening/ht/Soil_Test.htm
(just dont use a bunch of soil,u can do this test on a much smaller scale)

u could feed it more the next time it needs to be fed if the problem hasnt stopped by then, but dont start pumping it full off stuff to speed up the process
